The following represent a declaration of my values:

  1. Integrity (to be): to live with honesty and humility; my values, behaviours and words, should always be aligned.
  2. Health (to care): to take care of my body and mind. Be active.Eat Well. Spend time outdoors.
  3. Connection (to give): to live with others in mind, build relationships, and enjoy friendships and companionship.
  4. Discipline (to practice): to live with discipline and structure. To be physically, financially and emotionally secure, through consistent daily practices.
  5. Progress (to make): to live with purpose and direction. Keep moving forward, and work towards goals and objectives.
  6. Growth (to inquire): to live with an inquiring mind, explore new ideas, learn, and grow.

These have been derived following a few days of self reflection, prompted by the emotional intelligence curriculum offered by Makers.

In particular, the blog post; 4 Mindset Hacks to Help You Thrive), caused me to consider and clearly articulate my own values. Personal values are foundational to determining what is important in life. They help define success, and thereby assist in decision making. Living true to core values, is to live a fulfilling life.

However, values are surprisingly elusive, and not necessarily easy to pin down. I feel my list is good enough for now. Perhaps 80% correct. So I intend to live with this declaration for now. Try it on for size. See if it fits. But leaving myself open to the idea of evolving this list over time. My Values; Integrity, Growth, Health, Connection, and Security. For now…
