THE IDEAS PROJECT — DAY 20

Day 20. I like yesterday’s idea. I’m keen to try that out in the workplace one day. I haven’t combined an emotion and trend since Day 7, with uncertainty and growing vegetables. I’m going to try that again with a similar theme.

OLD IDEA 1: Satisfaction

OLD IDEA 2: Woodworking

NEW IDEA: Dissatisfied with the digital world? Miss the tangible, physical, satisfaction of crafting a beautiful object in wood? Join wood club, and learn how to build. Boat, furniture, or some simple shelves? We can help.

Five Whys:

  1. Modern life, and particularly modern work, is increasingly intangible and abstract.
  2. Many of the problems to solve are either digital, commercial or organisational in nature.
  3. Few require the use of your hands, to create something physical and tangible.
  4. This is creating a satisfaction gap. Modern workers miss the opportunity to learn a craft, and enjoy the mastery of working with physical objects.
  5. Wood club offers the opportunity for members to bring their project along to a workshop, and get expert tuition in how to build something beautiful.

Question: I’ve always loved wooden boats and have recently had a longing to build or renovate my own, but have little understanding of where to start. Do you have similar ambitions? Have you ever dreamt of crafting something in wood?
